Free Form BCN on 89.3 Mulpus
Brook FM
You
haven't heard radio like this since a group of shallow, materialistic
media "consultants" destroyed the Progressive FM format in 1977. It's
proof that you can't keep a good thing down forever. Free Form BCN, the
revival of the original concept of WBCN in Boston, debuted in August
2009 on the Internet and locally on WZLX-HD3, 100.7 FM. However, even
on the finest HD radios, reception of WZLX-HD3 in the neighborhood - and
all of
Shirley for that matter - is nearly impossible 80 to 90 percent of the
time. So, I am rebroadcasting Free Form BCN to conventional FM
radios in the neighborhood. Yes, it is not HD, but it's better than
being tied to a computer, and I'm sure the average person still
has more FM radios than iPhones. The audio is nevertheless "quality
analog." Tune in and enjoy a 21st Century version of an "anything goes"
musical potpourri that was the staple of FM radio before America
became fat, lazy, greedy, conservative, and complacent. It's a return
to how simple, open, and abundant things use to be. And it's all under
the auspices of giant corporate broadcaster CBS, no less!Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to Midnight Sunday 10 AM to 11 PM Fortunately, this revived format seems to be catching on among CBS owned HD subchannels in a few major markets. Most notable is the concurrent appearance of WNEW.com (102.7 HD2) in New York. As the name implies, it's a revival of the legendary WNEW-FM. Although the same format, the contrasting approach of the two stations is obvious, indicating that WNEW.com and FFBCN are both locally programmed... another practice from an era of greater integrity. It's a shame it so often takes economic hardship for people to return to what works and what has value. WRSI, The River on 89.3 Mulpus
Brook FM
Monday through Saturday, Midnight to 10 AM Sunday, Midnight to 10 AM and 11 PM to Midnight Since the early
1980's, WRSI's programming has been a product of what I call
the great "liberal cultural crescent of the Northeast"- a region that
extends from the mid-Hudson Valley of New York state, northeastward
through the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts, and northward through much
of the state of Vermont. WRSI is a TRUE Triple-A station, which means
it plays the widest musical diversity the audience will tolerate,
unlike the phony "Triple-A's," typically found in
larger markets that feature a more corporate approach. Tune in and
enjoy a perennial favorite in the world of progressive cultural
programming.
