Why your subscription or donation is urgently needed at this time.

1) On 11/8/11 my home was broken into and somewhere between $800 and $1000 worth of equipment was stolen. Items included a small mixing board, scanning radio, shortwave radio, laptop computer, and all cameras. I have replaced the mixing board, but cannot afford to replace anything else. When I had more time, I depended upon one of the cameras for listing items on eBay to help supplement support for the stations.

2) On 1/12/12 I had a serious slip and fall incident at the home of a long time customer of my employer. While descending a three-step stairs with three boxes of empty bottles in my hand, I tripped over a dog leash that was hidden under slushy snow and fell forward. The sharp impact of the edge of the top box against my face caused a deep laceration to my left cheek that required 11 stitches to treat at the emergency room. (It's an especially hard blow to someone who was looking into modeling gigs 14 months earlier.) The total bill to treat me was over $1600. I am currently not covered by health insurance, and although I was at the customer's home by request, the situation involved makes a workman's compensation case impossible.

3) From March to mid December 2011, my time at work had increased to a 55 hour, seven day a week schedule. It resulted in a long overdue minor economic recovery after the devastation of 2010. But it came at a terrible price, for both the stations and my sanity. Since mid December, however, business has been very slow, and although I'm still on a seven-day schedule, I've been cut back to 40 hours and once again, I'm feeling the pinch. Also, starting in March, I may be out of work for up to three weeks while my place of employment is totally gutted and rebuilt.

I would like to see more micro transmitters added in Shirley Village and downtown Ayer, and more local input supplementing the programming. But none of that can happen without a significant increase in support and time... and less bad luck!

Troubadour 1700 is still a hobby effort, but commercial and non-commercial sponsors are welcome and valued. If you own a small business or have a skill or cause you would like to promote in exchange for your donation, browse the basic packages below, then visit the "contact" link above and get in touch with me.

Although the FCC has limited the power of Part 15 AM stations to a ridiculous 100 milliwatts (1/10th of a watt!), and has made micro FM nearly impossible, there are Part 15 stations in strategic locations that have secured local advertising accounts. Sponsors support such stations because unlike the full powered corporate chains, they offer dirt cheap, affordable rates. These sponsors also feel better knowing they are supporting a locally owned, programmed, and managed facility that exists as a labor of love, instead of just another tool to enrich some greedy casino capitalist with an agenda of mind control for the masses.

We yearn for an FCC that is finally responsive and respectful of grass roots broadcasting that is not compatible with the Prometheus model. THE NON-COMMERCIAL ONLY, COMMUNITY GROUP LPFM MODEL PROMOTED BY PROMETHEUS IS YET ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO STIFLE THE CREATIVITY AND INDEPENDENCE OF SMALL TIME BROADCAST ENTREPRENEURS AND TO FORCE ALL COMMUNITY BROADCASTING INTO A CONTROLLED, HYPOCRITICAL "PUBLIC" RADIO STRAITJACKET... along with the infighting and sabotage that often results. The American public needs MORE than just the Prometheus low power model! We URGE the FCC to approve the proposal on their docket for some time to create a community based COMMERCIAL low power AM radio service (with power levels of 10 to 100 watts), and to raise the legal power limit of unlicensed AM and FM stations to 1 watt, as it is in many other countries. Such proposals would enable even a working poor person to start a small broadcast operation that has the potential to become a prosperous part-time business, while enabling other small local businesses to thrive. As a potential advertiser, you can help the cause by patronizing Part 15 and micro stations like ours, and by telling your member of Congress that you support a localized broadcast service that will unleash the creativity and courage of small time entrepreneurs.
